omg guys :’)
The opening ceremony and theme song for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. Omg. I was only 6 but I remember going to several of the events; I saw gymnastics, swimming, and baseball, and also whitewater kayaking because my dad’s friend was competing. If I had been two years older I would have sung at the closing ceremonies as well, because the choir I joined in 1998 performed there. The thing I remember most, though, is the whole city just being in an uproar of craziness for weeks/months in preparation; building the new stadium, new roads, cleaning up and redesigning, new infrastructure, parks, art. Epic times, friends.

there was a pipe bomb attack in centennial olympic park that killed one woman. There’s a memorial there now.
